Co-Curricular

King Edward’s School aims to challenge and stimulate all pupils by offering a robust, varied and year-round program of activities and experiences beyond the classroom. The 2015 ISI Report found extra-curricular provision to be “outstanding”, and we truly believe that there is something for everyone.

This is a busy school, we expect engagement from pupils and staff with our co-curricular programme, and our watchwords are breadth and opportunity. We pride ourselves on the development of rounded and grounded young people, and know that talents and interests discovered, nurtured and developed at school can shape a future. Whether your passion is coding, environmental action, Jiu Jitsu, gender equality, creative writing, debating - or whether you haven’t found it yet - there is little need to sit still for long. The vibrant academic life of King Edward’s goes hand in hand with the co-curricular, and we do our utmost to ensure that we are providing activities that are varied and exciting.

We offer a wide range of co-curricular activities, running over 100 different clubs to cater for the diverse interests and hobbies among our pupils. From academic societies to creative theatrical, musical and sporting pursuits, and outward-bound adventures on the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme, the Ten Tors Challenge and the CCF, our co-curricular opportunities share a commitment to ignite a passion for discovery, knowledge and adventure, and alongside academic life help to ensure a broad and well-rounded life at King Edward’s.

With the students able to engage themselves in a plethora of opportunities, it is also very important to achieve balance and wellbeing. We monitor and support our busiest pupils to ensure that they are not overstretched. Teachers work closely together to enable the keen sports player to attend the orchestra, take a lead role in the play, attend a walking or debating weekend, as well as fit in some well-deserved down time.

Senior pupils often lead activities for younger ones, helping them to develop leadership skills and experience, and contributing in turn to the special atmosphere of purposeful endeavour that so many of our visitors notice and appreciate. We greatly value our links with our city, and work with Bath Abbey, Bath Cricket Club, Bath Rugby, Bath Philharmonia and offer community service options in local primary schools and homes for the elderly as well as the Royal United Hospital for aspiring medics and scientists.

In addition, our well-established link with the charity Moving Mountains and their project work in schools in Kenya and Tanzania, and established links with China help to provide pupils with a global perspective.

KES has long since lost its reputation for being just about academics and sport.  Its arts offer is right up there with the best of them.
