KES Mathematicians through to the national final of the UKMT Team Maths Challenge

KES Mathematicians through to the national final of the UKMT Team Maths Challenge

24 April 2018

On Friday, four Year 8 and 9 pupils from KES (Libby, Harry, Josh and Fedor) took part in the regional round of the UKMT Team Maths Challenge, where they used logic and teamwork skills to solve mathematical problems.

The team did brilliantly at the cross-number round (a problem similar in nature to a crossword, but with numerical answers), scoring near top marks.  In a strong position, the team went on to take 1st place in the regional heat, placing them among the top 88 schools out of 1,600 schools taking part in the Challenge nationwide, and securing themselves a place in the National Final in London later this term. Many congratulations to the team!

Hoping for similar success, a Year 7-8 team of KES mathematicians are taking part in a Junior Maths Challenge this Thursday, also organised by the UKMT, where they will be tackling questions similar to the ones posed below.
