King Edward's School BATH

Mathematics is going from strength to strength at King Edward’s. This can be seen not only from the department’s recent examination results, but also from the successes that we have had in regional and national competitions, such as winning the National Cipher Challenge in 2011 and 2013 and gaining the award for the best school in the South West in the Team Maths National Challenge Final in June 2014. Particularly impressive is our pupils’ enthusiasm and dedication to the subject and, as a result, we regularly see around 60% of our pupils choosing to study Maths when they reach the Sixth Form.

The department consists of ten enthusiastic and highly committed members of staff. We are always looking for new initiatives to update and enhance our teaching of the syllabus, as well as trying out new ventures to generate interest and pleasure from the subject. Some of these include the Pi Day Treasure Hunt, as well as the ever popular Inter-Form Maths Relay. We have also increased the number of pupils who take part in the United Kingdom Maths Trust Individual Challenges and now have over 350 pupils who are involved in these competitions every year.
