New Sunday Times Parent Power survey ranks KES among the top 5 independent schools in the South West

King Edward’s School, Bath has once again been ranked as one of the top performing schools in the South West, according to The Sunday Times 2019 Parent Power survey, published at the weekend (25 November 2018).

This year’s survey sees King Edward’s ranked 5th in the South West’s independent sector, the highest placed school in Bath and among the 100 top independent schools nationwide for the 5th consecutive year.

Now in its 26th year, the Parent Power survey is widely acknowledged as providing one of the most comprehensive rankings of secondary schools based on the percentage of examination entries gaining A*- B grades at A Level this summer and entries returning A*/A or 7-9 grades at GCSE.

The School’s external examination results last summer saw over 60% of A Level entries gain an A* or A grade for the 6th year in a row.  The examination results included a new record high of over 28% A* at A Level and over 55% A*s, 9 and 8 grades at GCSE, as well as the School’s highest ever nationally standardised value-added figures at GCSE, showing an uplift of three quarters of a grade per subject entry.

Commenting on the School’s external exam performance, Martin Boden, Headmaster of King Edward’s, said: “The fact that we seem to break new records by one measurement or other every year doesn’t mean that it is easy to do so; it is down to hard work, talent, determination, focus, fantastic guidance from many quarters and a mutually supportive peer ethos that benefits everyone who commits to it. 

“We are delighted that the most recent Parent Power survey confirms the consistently outstanding academic credentials of the School.  What it can’t measure, of course, is the clear sense of working hard and playing hard, of team spirit and engagement, of making the most of the wonderful opportunities available here, of creativity and activity, of determination, support and happiness that characterise KES. There isn’t a scale of units to measure the mutual impact of school community and the ethos that underpins it; you don’t get grades for your commitment to community service or for charitable endeavour or for being kind and supportive when your friends or colleagues really need it. But these are equally important aspects of life here at King Edward’s.”
