Curriculum
King Edward’s School offers a diverse and balanced curriculum for pupils of all ages in a supportive and caring environment. The range of facilities available enhances the learning provision and there is an additional range of extra curricular activities to stimulate and broaden horizons.
In all year groups, the curriculum is both challenging and engaging providing an excellent basis upon which to pupils can develop a passion for learning and fulfil their true potential.
In the Lower School
In the Lower School pupils in Years 7 and 8 have a stimulating programme of study consisting of English, Mathematics, History, Geography, Latin, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Art, CDT, IT, Music, PE, Religious Studies, PSHE, Drama and Games, and two of French, Spanish and German.
In the Middle School
In Year 9 an element of choice is introduced. Two subjects are chosen from: German, Business & Information Technology, Latin and Spanish
Years 10 and 11
All pupils take nine or ten GCSEs. Pupils continue to study English Language, English Literature, a modern foreign language*, Mathematics, Religious Studies (non-examined), Science, ICT, PHSE, PE and Games. They have a guided choice of five subjects, taking one from each of the horizontal lines.
An example of how the guided choice system would appear:
1. Geography, History, Art, D&T, PE, Religious Studies
2. French, German, Spanish
3. Art, Business Studies, Geography, History, Latin, Music, Drama
4. Business Studies & Economics, D&T, French, Geography, History, Religious Studies
5. Triple Science, Double Science
* Please note that all pupils take a modern foreign language
Sixth Form
The Sixth Form is a lively and dynamic part of the School. Twenty six subjects are offered for AS level and A-Level encouraging diversity of choice added to which is General Studies to enrich the programme.
