Facilities

King Edward’s Pre-Prep and Nursery is situated in a beautiful Victorian house close to Royal Victoria Park, Bath. In addition to the light and airy classrooms, we have a well-equipped gymnasium and school hall with stage. There is a separate dining hall and kitchen where Mrs Mortimer, the school chef, cooks delicious meals from fresh ingredients every day.

The Pre-Prep also has a specialist music room, ICT suite, Teddy's Lodge for pre and after school care, newly enhanced art room and library. Our Nursery has its own playground and garden, allowing the smallest children to play together in a perfect early years environment.

We make full use of the spacious and safe grounds to the rear of the main house, which give our children the freedom to play and explore in a secure environment. The children can play on the surfaced playground, role play in the fort, explore the wooded area or enjoy the climbing frame.

There is also a newly renovated garden area, with a Victorian style Greenhouse, raised vegetable beds and a dipping pond, which the children use to grow vegetables, participate in environmental projects and for the investigation of water-based organisms. A magical sensory garden, a story-telling corner, outdoor teaching hut and playing field for team games (which will be replaced by an all-weather pitch later in the year) complete our outdoor space.

The children have weekly swimming lessons and have access to the excellent facilities of the King Edward's playing fields at Bathampton for sports activities. We also use the science laboratories at our Junior School, with the assistance of a specialist science teacher.

The Library

The library is at the heart of the school. A love of reading is vital so that children become empowered as learners. The bright and comfy furnishings and wide-ranging resources allow the children’s imaginations to run free and give them access to knowledge and enjoyment in a relaxing and cosy environment.

To foster independence we give the children the skills to learn how to find information, how to select what is relevant and how to take responsibility for their own learning. This is supported by an easy to use a computerised system for checking books in and out and searching for specific titles.

We are fortunate to have our own Library Assistant from the Senior School, who joins us each week.

Technology

Computing is one of the core components of our curriculum. It is taught both discretely and across all subjects. Interactive technology helps to make learning more engaging and memorable.

Here at the Pre-Prep we are fortunate to have a dedicated IT room, as well as multiple iPads that are used in and outside the classroom to enhance teaching and learning. iPads are also used as a means of recording observations and taking photographs.

Interactive Learning Diary

We use the Interactive Learning Diary (ILD) in the Early Years to record observations, assessments and learning journeys within a child's diary, while capturing evidence and assessing progress against the Early Years development statements. Parents are provided with a unique password to view the information taken against the seven areas of learning. We encourage parents to contribute observations and photographs from home so that we can work in close partnership together.
