King Edward's School, Bath Excels in senior maths challenge

It’s Maths Week in England, and therefore the perfect time to wish 12 of our senior mathematicians the very best of luck in tomorrow’s Senior Kangaroo competition, organised by the UK Maths Trust.

Their place was earned through outstanding performances in October’s Senior Maths Challenge, the toughest since 2002. Out of 140 KES pupils from Years 11–13, 64% achieved certificates, including 10 gold awards (pictured above), 30 silver and 50 bronze for some outstanding problem-solving.

Tricky questions included: How many different squares are factors of 2025? (Answer: 6!)

Another question asked: Together, n aardvarks and 12 anteaters eat n2 + 20n + 25 ants. Each animal eats the same whole number of ants. How many ants does each animal eat? (Check out the answer on the UKMT website!)

Many congratulations to everyone who took part and good luck to our Kangaroo competitors tomorrow.
