keS MUSICIANS SHINE AT THE HOLBURNE SOLOISTS' CONCERT
This year's Holburne Soloists' Concert was a celebration of music across the Senior School, featuring performances from Year 8 through to Year 13. The evening was the culmination of years of disciplined practice and perhaps a step towards a professional stage.
The programme was as diverse as it was demanding. It was particularly excitingto include the marimba for the first time. Not only is the marimba visually fascinating to see played live, but Keiko Abe’s Frogs brilliantly showcases the instrument’s unique, resonant voice. The evening also delved into the world of opera with the seductive trickery of Mozart’s Deh vieni, non tardar from The Marriage of Figaro, as well as several pupils exploring the evocative power of the piano. Our pianists took the asembled audience from the haunting, submerged bells of Debussy’s Sunken Cathedral to the soaring, turbulent passion of Aufschwung from Schumann’s Fantasiestücke.
All in all, the evening was not just a display of technical skill, but a celebration of the love our soloists' have for their craft.
