Another Year of outstanding a level success at King Edward's

Year 13 pupils at King Edward’s have today been celebrating some outstanding A Level results, with a remarkable 89% of all entries at A*-B, one of the School’s highest ever returns. 61% of grades were at A* or A, with 25% at A*. The overall pass rate was 100%.

Almost 40% of the cohort achieved only A* or A grades, with 33 pupils gaining 2 or more A*s, including 4 pupils with 4 each. 12 subjects achieved a 100% A*-B rate, and we were delighted that KES continues to buck a well documented national trend of declining numbers in Arts and Modern Languages with well over 60 entries in these areas, more than 70% of which were at A* or A.

These impressive outcomes continue a remarkable run of success in public examinations and mark the 14th year in succession in which KES pupils have achieved 60%+ A*/A grades at A Level. During that time, the average A*-B rate has been 87%.

Headmaster, Martin Boden, commented: “These wonderful results are a just reward for a very talented group of pupils who have consistently shone in so many different areas outside the classroom, as well as in the academic domain. I am delighted for everyone – pupils, parents and staff – who have given so much over the years and who have seen those efforts rewarded with these fantastic outcomes. I wish all of our Year 13 Leavers the best of luck on the next stage of their education as they progress along different pathways – including a wide range of universities in the UK and abroad, Art Foundation courses, Degree Apprenticeships, Conservatoires and more. I have no doubt that they will thrive on their journeys and look forward to hearing news of their success in the future.”

KES pupils this year are set to head to around 40 different Higher Education institutions, with the most popular (3 or more pupils) university destinations including Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff, Durham, Edinburgh, Exeter, Leeds, Liverpool, LSE, Loughborough, Manchester, Nottingham, Oxford, Southampton, St Andrews, UCL, Warwick and York.
