Parents will be invited to complete the Online Application Form. Please note: There is a non-refundable application fee.
STEP 3: ASSESS
Children will be invited into school to sit age-appropriate assessments in Maths, English Comprehension and Creative Writing. The main assessment morning takes place towards the end of January each year, with further assessments taking place in the Spring and Summer Terms, subject to availability.
STEP 4: OFFER

prep SCHOOL frequently asked questions
What are the entry requirements for joining the prep School?
---
All children joining the Prep School will sit assessments in Creative Writing, English Comprehension and Maths. These assessments are based on the National Curriculum, so will relate to work your child has already completed at their current school. We do not expect children to practise in advance of the assessments.
Do King Edward's prep school pupils need to sit the Senior School entrance exam?
Pupils at the Prep School are not required to sit the Senior School entrance exam as a condition of progression into Year 7. Senior School places are offered to those pupils meeting the relevant standards at the end of Year 5, based on ongoing academic performance and assessment data. For pupils joining the Prep School in Year 6, Senior School places will be offered alongside those for entry into the Prep School. All King Edward's Year 6 pupils remain eligible to apply for Senior School Special Talent Awards, whilst those wishing to be considered for an Academic Scholarship are still able to sit the Senior School entrance exams.
Can my child come for a taster day at the prep School?
We do not offer taster days, however, all children joining in September will be invited to a ‘move-up morning’ during the Summer Term prior to entry. This is an opportunity for them to meet their new teacher and classmates and familiarise themselves with the School prior to starting.
Do you offer wrap-around care?
The standard Prep School day starts at 8:40am and finishes at 4:00pm. Children are welcome to arrive for supervised play from 8:00am. At the end of the day, children may join after-school care provision from 4:00pm to 6:00pm.
Do you offer financial assistance for entry to the Junior School?
Unfortunately, we do not offer any financial assistance for entry to the Prep School, although pupils can apply for bursaries, scholarships and awards for entry into Year 7.
