pastoral care & Wellbeing
At the Prep School, the wellbeing of every child sits at the heart of our purpose. We believe that strong pastoral care is inseparable from excellent learning: children thrive academically when they feel safe, supported and happy. Our experienced staff take time to know and value each child as an individual, embedding care into every aspect of school life. All teaching and support staff are trained paediatric first aiders, ensuring children are safe and well cared for throughout the day.
Our aim is for every child to flourish within a nurturing, diverse and inclusive community. A rich PSHEE curriculum, beginning in Nursery and developing throughout the Prep School, equips pupils with the tools to build resilience, independence, confidence and healthy relationships. Additional emotional support is available for pupils who need it, supported by staff training in approaches including ELSA and Thrive.
Throughout their time in the School, our pupils are at the heart of the three-way partnership with parents and staff. Developing their voice is essential to their progress. Their form and subject teachers help them to express their views, in settings such as the School Council, class debates, assemblies and presentations, encouraging them to find the confidence to speak up and to speak out.
A supportive community
Our Buddy and Peer Mentoring programmes forge connections across year groups and provide meaningful support for pupils' wellbeing and development. Older Prep pupils support younger children through our buddy system, while they can also benefit from the support of carefully matched mentors from the Senior School, offering companionship and support through games, activities and conversation.
