tHE jUNIOR sCHOOL GO RACING!
After two terms building and designing their Goblin Kit Cars, Year 6 finally got to race their cars against other schools on Saturday.
Meeting at Renishaw New Mills, north of Bath, our two teams competed in slalom, drag and sprint events, with everyone getting a chance to drive in at least two races. Both teams did incredibly well. The 'Doodlers' won the trophy for best bodywork with their amazing doodled design, whilst the 'Golden Goblins' won five trophies, including joint 1st place overall. Notably, they also won the ‘Spirit of Greenpower’ award, for the respect they showed to both race officials and to the other teams competing.
Goblin kit cars are small electric vehicles that are assembled from scratch over the course of approximately 15 hours. The two Junior School teams built the chassis, seat and steering column and attached the steerable front axle and the 24-volt motor driven rear axle.
Goblin cars are the brainchild of The Greenpower Education Trust as a way of promoting sustainable technology and encouraging an interest in engineering.
