KES CREATES NEW BURSARY SUPPORT AND EDUCATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS ROLE AS FREYA GEARY-SMITH JOINS THE SCHOOL

 


King Edward's School is delighted to welcome Freya Geary-Smith to the newly created role of Bursary Support and Educational Partnerships Lead.
The new position reflects the School's commitment to widening access to a KES education through its means-tested bursary programme, while also strengthening partnerships with schools, charities and community organisations across Bath and the surrounding area.

King Edward's School, Bath is strengthening its bursary provision with the appointment of Freya Geary-Smith to a new role, helping widen access and opportunity for talented young people.Image,,News,OptimizedAfter reading English Language and Literature at the University of Oxford, Freya began her career at the Times Educational Supplement before completing a Master's degree in Musical Theatre at Goldsmiths, University of London.

Committed to social mobility and widening participation, Freya has worked with a number of educational and social impact organisations, including The Access Project and the School for Social Entrepreneurs. Most recently, she spent four years at the University of East Anglia as Outreach Faculty Manager, leading subject-specific outreach initiatives for young people who are underrepresented in higher education.

In her new role at KES, Freya will support families throughout the bursary application process, helping to ensure that talented young people can access the opportunities available at the School regardless of their financial circumstances. She will also help to develop and strengthen educational partnerships that create opportunities for young people across the local community.

Alongside her work in education, Freya is an award-winning musical theatre writer, composer and lyricist. Her work includes the internationally acclaimed musical Ride, and in 2023 she became the first British recipient of the prestigious Fred Ebb Award for Musical Theatre Songwriting.

Outside work, Freya enjoys singing with her three-year-old daughter and exploring the hills around Bath on her e-bike, sometimes at the same time.

"The creation of this new role, made possible through philanthropic support and the first of its kind at KES, reflects our commitment to ensuring that more pupils can benefit from a KES education regardless of their financial circumstances, while also strengthening our partnerships with schools and communities across Bath and the local area."
