digital learning at the pre-prep
Just before half-term Pre-Prep were delighted to take delivery of a new bank of laptops & iPads in support of Year 1 and 2’s Computing curriculum.
Their weekly Computing lessons explore areas such as:
- Technology around us
- Digital painting and photography
- Moving a robot
- Algorithms
- Pictograms
- Digital writing and music
- Programming animations and quizzes
Emphasis is placed throughout the year on using technology safely and respectfully.
This half-term the focus is on digital writing, using a computer to create and format text before comparing this to writing non-digitally. In their Computing lesson today Year 1 were using laptops to learn how to use the shift button and space bar and to format their names using word art.
Beyond their Computing lessons, the new iPads and laptops are also being like a pencil case - dipped into to support learning across the curriculum. For example:
- Year 1 used Kiddle, a child friendly search engine specifically designed for children, to research facts on orangutans
- Year 2 used iPads in their Maths lesson this week to play a game involving buying different objects, helping them to learn about money in a fun and interactive way.
In our early years provision, children learn how to program small toys and use simple software on iPads. They can take photos of things they are proud of, 'paint' pictures and explore apps that challenge maths, literacy and communication skills. Our curriculum ensures the children have open ended tasks set out in the Enhanced Provision that encourages problem solving and STEM based challenges throughout their play
