hOW kING eDWARD'S EMPOWERS PUPILS WITH CAREERS GUIDANCE AND REAL-WORLD SKILLS
Careers Education is a dynamic and integral part of life at King Edward’s School, Bath. Our aim is to ensure that every pupil, from Year 7 to Year 13, is equipped with the insight, confidence and practical tools to make informed decisions about their future, be that university, degree apprenticeships, vocational training or direct entry into the world of work.
This year, our programme is more ambitious than ever, offering tailored opportunities that reflected the diversity of modern career pathways and responding to the evolving demands of the workplace. In the Autumn Term, we worked with Tinker Tailor, a leading talent development agency, to provide one-to-one interviews to our Year 11 pupils, to support their decision-making around A Level choices. These sessions helped pupils reflect on their strengths and aspirations as they prepared for the next stage in their school journey.
In November, Year 7 pupils took part in a Careers in Science Day with Pulse CSI, exploring the breadth of STEM careers through immersive, hands-on activities. This aimed to spark curiosity and demonstrated how science and technology can lead to exciting and impactful careers.
We were also thrilled to welcome speakers such as Ali Gourley (OE), who spoke about making a difference through your career, and Roshni Mooneram, whose work in strategic Equity, Diversity and Inclusion spans institutions such as the European Parliament and CERN.
Our Year 12 pupils are also looking forward to our flagship Mentoring Evening at the end of January, where around 40 industry professionals will share their career journeys with small groups of pupils. This event offers a rare opportunity for pupils to hear the realities of different professions and ask questions in an open setting.
Looking ahead, in the Spring Term Kate Streather (OE) will join us to screen Ocean and discuss their work alongside David Attenborough, offering insights into documentary filmmaking and environmental storytelling. Year 8 pupils will also take part in a Careers in Law Day, gaining an understanding of the legal profession.
In the Summer Term, Year 10 pupils will experience mock interviews and attend an A Level taster day to begin their post-GCSE journey with confidence. We are also preparing for our biannual Careers Convention in April 2026, welcoming over 60 stallholders and more than 400 pupils.
Work experience remains a cornerstone of our programme, with over 100 Year 11 and Year 12 pupils supported in securing meaningful placements each summer. We continue to build strong partnerships with businesses and provide guidance to ensure every pupil gains practical experience and insight into their chosen field.
