Junior School Launch new pupil parliament
A brand-new Pupil Parliament has been launched at the Junior School this term, as part of the School’s new Pupil Voice project to give ownership and empowerment to our younger pupils to influence what their school looks and feels like to them.
The new Parliament has several sub-committees to its name, each with their own focus and covering different aspects of school life. Committee members are tasked with carrying out audits, surveys and interviews across the school community to help inform future action. So far this term, the House Committee, supported by two Senior School Prefects, Ed and Tallulah, have presented a charity assembly inviting pupils to vote for the charities they would like to support this year. They are also reviewing the house points system, house events and competitions. Meanwhile, the Sustainability Committee is due to meet shortly with the Estates and Facilities Manager to discuss installing more bike sheds at school after they surveyed fellow pupils to see if more people could or would travel to school by bike if further facilities were installed. Meeting over hot chocolate, the 12-strong Behaviour Committee is currently surveying pupils on the effectiveness of the new Junior School learning culture of being ‘ready’ to learn, ‘resetting’ if needed, and ‘reflecting’ on what they can learn next time.
We know that the children at our Junior School have incredibly creative ideas and most importantly, lots and lots of passion about their school and we hope that the new Pupil Parliament will harness this for the benefit of our whole community.
