This summer, 40 pupils from King Edward’s School, Bath took part in an unforgettable STEM Enrichment Day at the Atlassian Williams Racing headquarters in Oxfordshire, one of the UK’s most iconic motorsport engineering centres.
Hands-On STEM Learning for Future Engineers
From designing F1 car parts in the Composites Challenge to racing in a professional-grade simulator, pupils experienced the cutting-edge world of Formula 1 engineering and technology.
Behind-the-Scenes at a World-Class Motorsport Facility
A guided tour of the Williams Racing Museum showcased the team’s rich sporting heritage, while career insight sessions introduced pupils to the many exciting roles in Formula 1, including:
- Race engineering
- Aerodynamics
- Marketing and communications
- Logistics and event management
This immersive experience highlighted the diverse career pathways available in STEM and motorsport industries.
Inspiring the Next Generation of Innovators
With multiple KES teams preparing to enter the STEM Racing UK competition (formerly F1 in Schools) this academic year, the Design Technology department visit served as a powerful launchpad for future innovators and engineers.
Previous engineering competition success by KES teams includes winning the Entry Class category in the 2022 South West regional heat organised by F1 in Schools. The same team also won best engineered car and best verbal presentation
In 2019, a Year 12 KES team were joint UK champions of the Landrover 4x4 in Schools Technology Challenge.
