RUGBY AT KES
King Edward’s has a rich rugby heritage and a long history of success. Focused predominantly in the Autumn Term, with a 7s rugby programme operating in the Spring Term embracing the Rosslyn Park National Schools 7s, KES fields up to 15 teams from U12 to 1st XV.
Our rugby programme benefits from a superb team of specialist coaching staff, which include RFU Level 2 and 3 coaches. The general focus of rugby at KES is on safety, enjoyment and skill development, whilst building competitive and honest young sportsmen and teams.
The School has a flourishing pathway programme, with KES rugby players regularly selected into the Bath Rugby talent pathway, from U15 PDG to U18 PDG.
Girls’ rugby is evolving at the School with the focus on the 7-a-side format at present. Training sessions take place before school on the astro and focus on skills development and game awareness over the course of the Autumn and Spring Term. The Spring Term is the competitive season, participating in tournaments in preparation for the National School 7s competition.

SUPPORTING TALENT
King Edward’s has a long tradition of supporting talent in all its forms, through our means-tested Bursary Programme, which is open to pupils joining KES in the Senior School, including those joining us in Year 12. Over 135 pupils in the Senior School are currently in receipt of a bursary, with over a third holding bursaries of 70% and above. |

“Getting the opportunity to come to KES because of the School’s Bursary Programme allowed me to experience some fantastic opportunities that I wouldn’t have been able to do otherwise. I wanted to go to KES because of their strong academic programme, where all pupils are eager to learn and therefore push each other to progress. Another strong aspect of KES that suited me was their rugby programme, which offered great coaching and competition, alongside links to the Bath Rugby Academy Programme, which I was later lucky enough to be a part of thanks to the coaching at KES. These two areas of strength allowed me to push myself in both aspects of my life and led to me gaining a place at Cardiff University where I am currently studying Accounting and Finance alongside taking part in the high-level rugby the university offers. Without the opportunities KES gave me, I would not have got to where I am today, and I remain grateful to KES for supporting me.”
