Yondr Pouches adopted for years 7-11: supporting a phone-free school day
This week, King Edward’s School, Bath begins the phased introduction of Yondr pouches for pupils in Years 7–11, marking a significant step in our commitment to digital wellbeing and focused learning.
As previously announced, the Yondr pouch system is designed to help pupils stay present, build meaningful relationships and enjoy a break from the pressures of constant connectivity.
Once the roll-out is complete, pupils who bring a mobile phone or smartwatch to school will be required to switch off their devices and secure them in their personal pouch during morning registration. Devices will remain inaccessible throughout the school day and will only be unlocked as pupils leave the school site.
Prior to the introduction of Yondr pouches, our school phone policy required pupils to switch off their phones and store them in lockers. The new system is designed to be simple for families, consistent for pupils, and supportive of healthy habits.
Commenting on the adoption of Yondr, Mr Will Quayle, Deputy Head (Pastoral) at the Senior School, said: "We hope this will be a positive step in supporting pupils to engage fully with their learning and with one another whilst at school. We recognise that this is just one part of a broader approach. As part of our Learning for Life programme, we remain committed to helping our pupils build a healthy relationship with technology and we will continue to work closely with parents to ensure that clear and healthy boundaries are in place beyond the school gates."
Supporting Digital Wellbeing at School and Home
We recognise that technology plays a central role in modern life. Through our Learning for Life programme, pupils will continue to learn about responsible technology use and receive support if they’re struggling with phone use or online interactions. We also host regular parent seminars at school, or online via our partnership with The Wellbeing Hub.
