GCSE Awards & Achievements

KES pupils are again celebrating some outstanding GCSE results, evidently taking the challenge of the new grading system in their stride. Nearly 40% of the relevant entries were at the coveted top 9 grade, with over 60% at 8 or 9. In those subjects still operating on the old letter scale, the results were equally impressive, with over 50% of entries at A*. With the two systems combined, 78% of the exams taken were at grades 7/A or above, whilst 55% of all exams taken achieved the top A* or number 9 and 8 grades. 13 pupils gained only A* or 9 grades, whilst a remarkable 35% of the cohort achieved 8 or more subject passes at 8/9 or A* grades.

Biology, Chemistry and Physics were joined by German in achieving over 80% A*/A in the demanding iGCSEs, whilst Computing, History, Music, Latin and Greek all hit the 70% mark for 8 and 9 grades. Indeed, almost three quarters of the entries in Greek achieved the top accolade.

Headmaster, Martin Boden, was full of praise, commenting:  The pupils in this year group have listened carefully to advice, applied themselves diligently to improve and combined natural talent with hard work to produce these superb and well-deserved results.  The new numerical grades confirm that KES pupils continue to perform outstandingly well at the highest level, and I congratulate every one of them on a wonderful achievement.”
