KES Community Raises Over £21,000 for Charity

The KES community has been united in its efforts to raise as much money as possible for charities this year, culminating in raising an incredible £21,406.

The year started, with Head Prefect, Orla, attending a meeting with representatives from other local schools, with the aim of fundraising to help send generators to Oleksandriya in Ukraine. Their efforts helped towards organising a concert at Bath Abbey featuring local choirs and Ukrainian singer, Nicole Medin, where all proceeds were donated to the Generators for Ukraine Appeal.

Cake sales are always a popular way to raise money at KES, whether you are an avid baker or keen consumer of a slice of cake at break! One such sale in February was in aid of the Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal. 

The following month the KES community across all three schools donated an incredible 570 new and nearly new books to Bath Foodbank as part of their new Book Bank initiative to provide books to children and adults in the local community.  The School also makes regular donations to the Foodbank itself, and our charity prefects visited the charity earlier in the year to better understand their vital work.

Another highlight of the year saw nine KES staff and one brave Year 7 pupil, Zac, abseil down Bath Abbey to raise money for The Genesis Trust. The team raised £3,600 and battled through all types of weather to get to the bottom safely. It was a memorable event, and lots of people turned out to support the team. 

The hugely popular KES Unite Charity Concert returned this year and once again featured an evening of music by KES Soul, as well as solo musical performers and dance acts. The concert was in aid of the School’s international charity, Moving Mountains Trust. The total amount raised on the night was just shy of £3,000. 

The Sports community also helped fundraise this year, hosting the annual charity netball match against Royal High School, which ended in a nail-biting 39-39 draw! Further funds were raised on the occasion of the Coronation, with a Marshfield ice-cream and cake sale morning proving great fun and hugely popular. 

In the Summer Term, individual fundraising efforts came to the fore, with Joe Johnson, Bethan Mawer and Georgia Gale all raising funds for their respective charities.  Joe is joining the Kenya trip this summer, and ahead of his departure raised over £500 for Moving Mountains Trust by having his hair cut during a livestream event on Instagram.  Bethan, alongside a team of Year 10 friends and KES staff recently took part in Dorothy House’s Midnight Walk and successfully raised £750 for the hospice.  Lastly Year 7 pupil, Georgia Gale, raised a quite incredible £5,000 by undertaking a ten-hour Drumathon on behalf of the Scoliosis Association UK and The British Scoliosis Research Foundation.
