School Trips General News

Applications for the 2024 Gilligan Family Travel Award are now open for all pupils in Years 10-13.

This is an exciting opportunity for everyone to consider, as the award enables pupils to undertake purposeful travel with an educational focus. Typical trips might involve volunteering schemes at home or abroad, language learning or a visit to a site of historic, cultural or scientific interest. Last year one of the successful recipients of the award travelled to Rio de Janeiro, to study Portuguese and stayed with a host family to immerse himself in the culture.

An annual award, the Gilligan Family Travel Award is very generously provided by Old Edwardians, Jonathan and Philip Gilligan, in memory of their late mother Mrs Joan Gilligan, who taught French and German at KES prior to her retirement. The award also commemorates their father, Bill who led fundraising initiatives at the School, and their late brother, Simon who was also an OE.

If pupils wish to apply, all details are on the VLE. A written application should be submitted to the Headmaster by 31 January 2024. One or more awards may be made each year up to a maximum value of £1,500 per trip.
