Music Senior School

The second half of the Autumn Term began with some stunning individual performances. Our two-day ABRSM exam visit saw Year 13 music pupil, Bethan, take her ARSM Diploma in Music Performance – we are thrilled to report she passed with Distinction. Now known as ‘Bethan Cheshire ARSM’, we look forward to watching an exciting career in orchestral bassoon playing unfold…

Staying with the theme of impressive solo performances, the school watched Year 9 pupil, Anna Blackwall, perform The Last Post at our annual Remembrance Assembly – this in the same week that she passed her ABRSM Grade 7 Trumpet exam with Merit and secured a place in the West of England Youth Orchestra.

Featuring soloists from Year 7 to Year 13, our annual Autumn Colours Concert was a joy to behold and included soaring sonatas, pretty preludes and jumpin’ jazz.

The Musical Theatre Showcase is fast becoming a firm favourite in the Autumn schedule and this year The Rose once more played host to a collection of wonderful performances, from South Pacific and The Sound of Music to Dear Evan Hansen and Hamilton.

The Wessex Building pulsated this term with two hours of back-to-back drumming at the second of five annual Bath Philharmonia Masterclasses. Pupils perfected their versions of You Got The Love and Smells Like Teen Spirit to name but a few.

After an enforced pause due to the pandemic, November saw us re-establish our partnership with the fabulous ‘Art at the RUH’ team. We were incredibly proud of the Baroque Group who performed sensitively to patients, staff and visitors alike, helping to raise valuable funds for the hospital. Patrons can look forward to Christmas Carols in December, courtesy of the brilliant KES Brass.

Speaking of Christmas, KES Wind once more entertained the crowds at the KES Christmas Fair with their mix of traditional and popular festive favourites. Thank goodness for the Christmas jumpers on what was an especially chilly day! Meanwhile, KESOO’ (our KES Open Orchestra) took both the Year 7 and final assembly by storm. The end of term highlight was undoubtedly our Carol Service, where KES24, our Senior Singers and KES Contemporary helped to deliver a truly magical evening.
