Wellbeing Senior School

In the Senior School we get to know our pupils well and build open and trusting relationships so that the children who arrive in Year 7 can flourish, succeed, and develop into spirited, thoughtful and confident young adults.

At the heart of our pastoral care is the Deputy Head (Pastoral) and the heads of sector, who work closely with our heads of year and form tutors, all of whom are there to listen, encourage and support pupils.

In addition to this, our pupils can access support from our school counsellor and the staff at the Health and Wellbeing Centre.  Recognising that pupils benefit from the support provided by the staff at the Health and Wellbeing Centre, we have not only increased our staff provision, but we have also recently created a wellbeing room that acts as a dedicated space for pupils to press pause when they need.

This term, we have also introduced a new listening support service that is being provided by Off the Record, an organisation that has extensive experience working with young people in schools across Bath and North East Somerset. Their listening support service provides confidential and independent information and support for our pupils, when needed.

Recognising the strength of the wellbeing structure in place at KES, the School’s recent ISI inspection found that, “Pupils recognise when they might benefit from additional advice and support and readily request such help from staff at the school’s health and wellbeing centre.  They understand that good mental health is supported by maintaining an effective balance between work, rest and play.”
